Day 17: A walk and a swim at Playa Zapote

 March 19

What did we do?

We had every intention of just taking it easy on our last day on the Osa Peninsula, but when one is up at 5:30 am, one has had enough relaxing by 10 am. Looking at the map, we saw that the nearby Playa Zapote was adjacent to a lagoon and thought maybe there would be good bird viewing. We packed up our swimsuits, and a few KIND Bars, and drove to Playa Zapote where we parked at the south end of the beach. We walked north along the mostly deserted beach looking for trails into the lagoon, but couldn’t find any access. We did however see many scarlet macaws and had a refreshing swim in the calm waters.

Where did we eat?

We had heard rumors that Encanta la Vida, just around the corner from Casa Bambu, had a happy hour and so we decided to investigate. We found a limited happy hour drinks menu, but decided to have an early dinner there. We all enjoyed our meals, but what we enjoyed, even more, was the monkey show: Capuchins and Spider Monkeys feeding, playing and jumping through the trees for almost an hour.

We stop for Howler Monkeys - a random sighting as we were driving back to Casa Bambu
