March 5
What did we do?
I like birds a lot, but when you see me dressed in my bright turquoise t-shirt and hot pink headband you just know I am not a serious birder.
The night before we had stopped by the Dantica Hotel and booked a four-hour morning bird tour ($68 per person). We met up with our guide, Carlos, at 8 am and spent the morning bird-watching at various sites along the valley road and ending with a walk through the forest across the Savegre River near the Lauraceas Botanical Garden.
We saw over 35 different species of birds and yes, I did enter them into my ebird checklist. Now, if only I could embrace khaki I might have a future as a respectable birder.
Carlos was a knowledgeable and friendly guide and we would highly recommend him. You can contact him directly about guiding at carlosserrano12@hotmail.com.
Later in the afternoon, we visited Miriam’s Quetzal’s Restaurant again for coffee and bird watching at the feeders. So many different species visit these feeders including one of my favorites, the Emerald Toucanet.
Where did we eat?
We prepared our own breakfast in the cabin and almost certainly KIND Bars were part of lunch. We also enjoyed a good pizza for dinner at Pizzeria los Colibries.
The bird pictures below were taken by Dave at San Gerardo
